Massage Therapy and Other Therapeutic Services
Swedish massage uses five styles of long, flowing strokes to massage. The five basic strokes are effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (cross fiber) and vibration/shaking. Swedish massage has shown to be helpful in reducing pain, joint stiffness, and improving function in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee over a period of eight weeks. It has also been shown to be helpful in individuals with poor circulation.
It can be customized with the pressure and focus varying between clients. Whether you are looking for a specific treatment for an injury or concern, or a more general relaxation treatment. It is extremely effective in treating most conditions from tension headaches, back, neck and knee pain, as well as acute or chronic injuries. It is also effective in treatment of TMJ dysfunction, and overuse injuries such as tendonitis.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage is not only a matter of pressure, but it is designed to get into the deeper muscles and structures of the body. It can be deeply relaxing and should not be painful. This massage tends to release a lot of trapped toxins, i.e. lactic acid, from the muscle tissue.
Massage during pregnancy can help to relieve lower back discomfort, lower leg cramping, swelling in hands and feet, among other things. Whether you have a concern, or simply need some time to enjoy being pregnant, a massage is a wonderful gift during this special time. It is safe for all stages of a normal pregnancy.
